Plymouth District Explorers Ten Tors 2009
It has been confirmed we have been allocated one 35 mile team this year and no 45 mile teams, so we will only be training year 9 and 10 scouts/explorers.
Registration Evening For those who would like to train with us for a possible place in the District team there will be a registration evening at Compton Methodist Church Hall, Revel Road on Wednesday 14 January at 8pm to be attended by Scouts/Explorers and parents. We will outline the training schedule, the main criteria and method for selection and the emergency procedures that we have in place

“Dartmoor is one of the last wildernesses in England. It is a National Park, and occupies some 368 square miles (954 square Km) of hills topped by granite outcrops - the 'Tors'. At its lowest points Dartmoor touches 325 feet (100 m) above sea level, and the highest Tor-capped hill reaches 2018 feet (621 m). The valleys and dips between the hills often hold bogs to trap the unwary walker.”
Ten Tors is a challenge for teams of 6 to complete distances of 35, 45 and 55 miles in 2 days next May.
In order to complete such an event requires commitment and training in walking, navigation, safety and team work. In return the levels of pride, self confidence, achievement, independence, personal development and bragging rights can be immense.
